Centrão resiste : espaços públicos do Centro de Goiânia (GO) como lugares de memória (2010-2022)

Abstract

The center of Goiânia, in recent decades, has been the target of several urban interventions that idealized to rescue its sense of centrality and contain processes that conditioned its degradation. Having this panorama as a background for analysis, this research is part of the Research Line ―Culture, preservation and identities‖ and focuses on case studies of six public spaces that underwent urban revitalization and requalification interventions, within the established cutouts: the territorial (the Central Sector) and temporal (the period from 2010 to 2022). The concepts of collective memory, places of memory, cultural heritage and public spaces guided the proposed analysis, as well as the problems that permeate these themes in the context of contemporary cities. The methodological procedures used were: theoretical-conceptual literature review; historiography analysis; analysis and use of images; consult the journalistic collection; analysis of existing urban legislation; field research, through face-to-face interviews and application of virtual questionnaires with residents and regulars, seeking to identify how the interventions took place and the possible changes caused by them in the connection between individuals and the neighborhood. The results show that there are uses and forms of appropriation of these public spaces by the population in the Central Sector, as well as the need to rethink urban planning and public policies in the city of Goiânia. It also points to the reality that, despite the discourse that it is in abandonment, the Center resists through the life that pulsates in colors, flavors, and smells; in alleys, streets, markets, fairs, commerce, festivals and demonstrations; resists in the plurality of the encounter between urban subjects, who live their spaces day by day. Finally, as a product, the Centrão Resiste virtual portal was created, in which all the content produced during the master's degree is gathered, as well as the interactive map. All content will be available free of charge and freely accessible to the entire community.
