Sustentabilidade Socioambiental na indústria do Estado de Goiás alinhamento com a Agenda 2030

Abstract

The environment is addressed and discussed worldwide, and the proposals at each meeting present the same follow-up issues for a healthier and more sustainable life. The objective was to investigate the implementation of socio-environmental sustainability practices in industries in Goiás, seeking to identify the alignment of these initiatives with the principles of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Based on the relevance of environmental and social issues, a descriptive quantitative approach was adopted, aiming to understand how sustainable practices are being incorporated into the state's industrial sector. The work was developed around three main pillars: first, entitled “Introduction to Socio-environmental Sustainability and its Relevance for Corporate Responsibility”, it establishes the context of the research, highlighting the importance of sustainability in business practices. The second pillar, “ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) Fundamentals”, analyzes information obtained from the websites of two companies from different sectors in Goiás, verifying how these companies are implementing sustainable practices aligned with the principles of the 2030 Agenda. The third pillar, “The empirical contributions of business practices aligned with the 2030 Agenda”, examines the applicability of sustainable practices in the business environment, addressing the reduction of CO2 emissions, efficient resource management and corporate social responsibility, practices that can be expanded to promote sustainability on a global scale. The study also reports on the transition from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting the changes in focus and the expansion of environmental targets in companies in the State of Goiás. The results indicate a predominantly positive perception regarding business initiatives to meet sustainability targets. With the transition from the MDGs to the SDGs, which expanded the scope of issues such as education, water, decent work and industrial sustainability, it was possible to observe these significant advances. The study shows the effectiveness of the practices implemented, highlighting the progress of companies in Goiás in aligning their operations with the principles of sustainable development.
