Da Irmandade de Nossa Senhora do Rosário ao Congo Vilaboense : memórias narradas em HQ

Abstract

This research is part of a line research “Culture, Preservation and Identity” and proposes an analysis and reflection on the resistance of black culture through the memory of the Brotherhood of Our Lady of the Rosary of Black Men in the city of Goiás (GO), currently expressed by Congo Vilaboense, a performance that has existed since the century XVIII. Black culture and memory in the city of Goiás resisted historical events that, to a large extent, were responsible for the destruction and/or the redefinition of material base elements of the memory of this group, such as the ancient Church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos . Congo presents itself as a reminiscent memory and a practice of resistance in response to several attempts to erase memory. The methodology consisted of a literature review and survey, analysis of written and visual sources, application of a questionnaire using Google Forms, interviews with conguistas in the city of Goiás. As a result of the research, we sought to develop a didactic resource for heritage education in order to present proposals alternatives to the historical knowledge of the church, the Irmandade dos Pretos and Congo Vilaboense, and provide a decolonial educational process to stimulate historical awareness and critical thinking. Therefore, we present the proposal we produced two Comics (Comic), entitled “Daren, the boy played in time” and “A Família Real Vilaboense”. We built the latter, together with the participants and holders of this heritage property. The first comic book is a narrative that takes up the context of the Irmandade dos Pretos and the former Igreja do Rosário, as a way of valuing black culture.
