Abstract
The Foundation Educational of the City of Goiás - FECIGO, a local non-profit institution,
popularly known as Foundation Cultural Frei Simão Dorvi or simply Frei Simão Archiv was
created in 1970 by the Italian-Vilaboan ecclesiastic Giuseppe Dorvi. The foundation is located
in the former capital of Goiás, composing the architectural complex listed by UNESCO as a
World Heritage Site in 2001. The vilaboense entity has gathered in the same place a historical
archive, a library and an annex called the Archive of Indigenous People and of Culture and
Black Pride of Goiás. Through its facilities it has preserved, restored and made available for
research, a diverse collection of books, periodicals and historical documents related to the
memory and history of Goiás becoming an authentic "place of memory" according to the
concept presented by Nora (1993). Through conservation, restoration, preservation, and mainly
by making available documents linked to different organs of the local government, the
Foundation Cultural Frei Simão Dorvi has provided over the years transparency and access to
information, effectively corroborating for the implementation of Law No. 12.527 - Access to
Information Law, in the state of Goiás. Among the various documents preserved in the
Foundation Cultural Frei Simão Dorvi are documents, books and manuscripts from the 18th,
19th and 20th centuries, bibliographical heritage of an important manifestation of Brazilian
cultural heritage: the bibliographical heritage.
