Agronegócio e a reestruturação urbano-regional do oeste da Bahia

Abstract

It is intended with this work analyze urban and regional restructuring resulting from the spread of agribusiness, especially in agricultural frontier areas, investigating the specific case of Western Bahia space that has been the target of the territorialization of agricultural capital and the performance of agro-industrial networks since 1980. The set of events in process in this area would be inducing a sustained regionalization in the dynamics of agribusiness associating with an expanding network of new agricultural capital and to all the urban and rural demands that have made them a new agricultural productive region. It also seeks to understand that urban content and the regional roles of the main cities of Western Bahia result from a growing integration between agribusiness and urban economic circuits transforming cities into functional spaces to the productive demands of the modern countryside. The expansion of urbanization and the increase of the urban economy makes agribusiness, acquire a competitive standard, entrepreneur, adjusted to capitalist interests and, therefore, attractive to hegemonic agents of agro-industrial networks. The West of Bahia presents, indeed, a set of environmental, cultural, social, economic variables and policies that, combined, give it, at each historical moment, a geographic identity. And this identity is a product of the historical process of formation and regional organization, but with a new variable added, mainly from the 1980s onwards, the diffusion of agribusiness in the region. With the spread of agribusiness, incorporated places are subject to changes in their forms and content. The purpose of this work is, therefore, to present a synthesis of some reflections about the diffusion of agribusiness in the west of Bahia and the urban-regional restructuring arising from this process. This Dynamic caused a socio-spatial reorganization with the emergence of new territorialities through the "modernization of agriculture" and the increase in ascending urbanization. The theoretical surveys considered books, journals, theses, dissertations, articles and all kinds of material that dealt with matters relevant to the research theme. and also with a vast research carried out via the internet, highlighting the following electronic portals: Capes journals; Google Scholar, e-magazines, e-newspapers, public university virtual libraries, among others.
