Abstract
The present study investigated the urbanization process of the city of Ceres-GO, a city in which its historic urban core begins to form within the territory of the National Agricultural Colony of Goiás (CANG), through a proposal for a planned city. However, as the city's urbanization unfolded, a situation dictated by the logic of the production of capitalist space, and despite this reality, it became a city with different spatialities, in which many of these locations were created by the Public Power to meet the needs of social classes with low purchasing power – through the donation of lots and popular houses, or just the lots, formerly through housing subsidies –; thus forming the so-called neighborhoods of social interest. Above all, an urban space in disarray and segregated, where the legal instruments, which in principle should guide the division of urban land, demonstrated their innocuous character. However, the focal object of this work was to identify the origin and conditions under which neighborhoods of social interest were established and, in the meantime, to understand the difficulties imposed on the population residing in these spaces of socio-spatial segregation. To this end, the research, which has a qualitative nature, used
interviews and oral reports with locals to analyze, on a daily scale, the obstacles to achieving
success in these locations. In short, the study concludes that it is class politics that effected
residential segregation in the different spatialities of the city of Ceres, determining or driving the process explicitly. This is a critical approach supported by the theoretical conceptions of historical and dialectical materialism and, by authors such as: Corrêa (2020), (2021); Carlos (2017), (2018); Souza (2021); Castells (2021)
