Festa de São João Batista da Rua do Capim (Goiás, GO) : patrimônio, memória e resistência na “rua-lugar”

Abstract

The Festival in Praise a São João Batista is understood here as a unique element of the cultural heritage of the City of Goiás (GO), which gives Capim Street a sense of "place". As a tradition, it has been held for over seventy years and is held by a social group outside the context of the historic center listed as a World Heritage Site, mostly blacks and poor people from the City of Goiás. However, the party does not have, until then, from no formal or documentary record, nor does it make up the city's cultural calendar, being carried out with the meager resources of a community that manifests resistance in its place of life and in the maintenance of its memories. Thus, this report is part of the Culture, Preservation and Identities Research Line, and for the development of the same study, the methodological procedures adopted were of a bibliographic nature, based on readings on memory and identity, material and immaterial heritage; moreover, it was a participatory research with an emphasis on orality (stories and memories) and making use of narrative interviews with residents, promoters of the party. Photo files belonging to local residents were also accessed. As a product of the research and a form of feedback to the community, an audiovisual record (documentary) about the referred party was proposed, with the purpose of contributing to the strengthening of this tradition, memory and local identity. Upon entering the devotion of João Batista and the festivities that make up the itinerary of the Capim Street tradition, it was noticed, above all, how faith, collectivity and the feeling of belonging merge and shape the heritage of the place.
